That’s what Giving Hearts do

Pat Traynor

We owe this amazing region a resounding thank you! Year after year you fill our hearts with love, humility, and happiness as you come together on Giving Hearts Day for the good of your neighbor.

Over the past 11 years, you’ve shown the unlimited potential of the human spirit to care for one another. Giving Hearts Day is a day to celebrate and support charities. But really, Giving Hearts Day is alive and thriving in our region well beyond those 24-hours. Giving Hearts Day has become a cultural event in our region that introduces children to giving and service, opens important dialogue about needs in our community, brings families together, teaches nonprofits pathways to greater success, gets people out into the community championing their favorite causes, and of course, it raises funds for the critical work of over 400 nonprofits throughout our region.

More than 6,300 additional donors stepped up to say #countme this year. Schools encouraged children to volunteer for service projects which then became financial gifts to their favorite charities. Thanks to you, UND and NDSU awarded over $151,000 to 26 students in the first-ever Giving Hearts Day scholarships. Purposeful businesses got involved like never before by raising awareness, contributing incentives, and becoming Champions for Charities. The media also served as an invaluable partner in spreading the word about this day of generosity and you all looked like you had a lot of fun doing it. It should be fun because giving is good. It changes us and our communities.

On behalf of Dakota Medical, Impact, and the Alex Stern Family Foundations, and all the charities that received thoughtful gifts of over $13 million, thank you! Thank you for your support. Thank you for your kindness. Thank you for your compassion. Thank you for your generosity. Thank you for doing what Giving Hearts do.
