Use the correct name for parade

Paul Ferrer

As a native Southern Californian, transplanted to Minot via Tucson and Chicago, it’s time to proffer one of my pet peeves: A pox on anyone who refers to the annual New Years Day parade in Pasadena as “the Rose Bowl Parade.”

It is properly called either “the Tournament of Roses Parade” or simply “the Rose Parade.”

The Parade has nothing to do with the Rose Bowl Game except that the combatant teams’ conferences are represented by floats, generally staffed by the cheer squads from the participant teams; and the Rose Queen is honored in the pre-game ceremonies at the Rose Bowl.

Happy New Year, everyone.
