Celebrating energy independence

Joan Sammon

Ingenuity lives within the human soul. It spurs innovation and is the root of our visceral inclination to problem solve and to improve our lives.

The unleashing of the American Energy Industry is a testament to our human ingenuity, and it single-handedly shifted the geo-political landscape of the world, without even a single shot being fired.

For decades, America and her allies have lived at the whim of foreign energy powers. At points in recent history, we have even waited in lines to fill our gas tanks, or paid more than $4 for a gallon for our gas. We have sent hundreds of billions of dollars annually to oligarchs and dictators around the world who have used both their power and their dollars to work against the international interests of their best customer, the US. Our collective national dream was of a day when America could produce energy for herself. That dream has been realized!

My, how times have changed!

The unprecedented productivity of US oil producers from plays across the country is the result of our innovative vision and spirit, coupled with unbending dedication. When the thought-leaders in American engineering were given access to capital and were supported by committed leadership, innovations such as horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing were the result, changing the landscape of the entire world. In less than a decade, American energy producers have become the largest market influencers in the world, nearly doubling oil and natural gas production, with additional efficiencies ensuring continued growth. Their innovation has created hundreds of thousands of new jobs not only within the oil and gas industry, but also in ancillary industries including manufacturing, refining, exporting, and steel.

This energy revolution has strengthened our nation’s economy, diminished dependence on dictatorial regimes, and enhanced our standing in the world. It has catapulted us from dreaming of energy independence to driving energy dominance. May our great nation’s citizens continue to dream, innovate and stand committed to what is possible!
