Minot needs a normal person as mayor

Nancy Bommelman

Minot

PROMARK, DIRECTEL, ORAL LOGIC. Remember those companies? We paid them to come to the city of Minot and make their companies work. WE PAID THEM! They are gone. Long gone. These companies were given money from the Magic Fund and they were also suppose to pay the city back, but guess what? They took off with the money that was given to them and their companies fell through. Imagine that!

Why do we give companies that want to come to Minot a tax break and money, then they get up and leave after their companies go under? What the hell are the city council members thinking? They aren’t. What we need to do is do something for the companies that have given back to the city of Minot. For instance, let’s take Nite Train Pizza, they have been here before the flood and rebuilt and relocated after the flood. Why not give them let’s say $10,000 and give them a new floor and booths for their business. The nice thing is they are staying here.

Another thing that can be done with the Magic Fund, and by the way, there is $8 million sitting there. Why don’t we use that to build a drug treatment center. I know it’s not enough but it’s a damn good start. There is a HUGE drug problem in Minot and everybody knows it. We need to help the people with addiction. If you take them to a treatment center they can be treated. Unlike a hospital that puts them in the psych ward for three days and releases them. Or another good one is “they aren’t at that point.” Why not build something in town that is going to do something good for these people. I know that they are having meetings about the drug problems in Minot, but having a meeting and passing out flyers isn’t going to do it. WE NEED ACTION!!

We need to take that $8 million and start a treatment center that will work. Putting these people in jail isn’t doing any good. We need to educate them and show them what the drugs are doing to their minds, bodies and souls. The city needs to step up and open their eyes and see what really is going on in the city of Minot. What we need is to make changes, better changes. If the treatment center can be built, there are grants for treatment centers. If we can spend $10 million on a worthless parking ramp, that nobody hardly ever uses. One million dollars on repainting the flood wall. Why can’t we spend the money on a drug treatment center to make people’s lives better.

You know why we won’t build a treatment center because it won’t benefit the pockets that can be lined. Remember this is a good old boys town and it’s who you know to get something done.

Think about who the people are that have been in higher positions in Minot? We had a mayor that just happen to work at a bank that got a permit pushed through for expansion of their bank. We had a mayor that ran the Norsk Hostfest. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could have a normal person run for Mayor that had common sense instead of worrying about putting money in their pockets? A person that would stand up for the little guys, for the working class people. I know I do.
