State needs to focus on crime

Monte Reiner

Minot

The news of our fine region seems to be commanding another full page of crime reports. Million dollar meth busts, 40 pound pot caches, and women stealing spools of wire is everyday news in the Rockin’ Sockin’ Bakken.

Twelve and 14-year-old girls being trafficked to the oil crowd for their pockets full of cash runs rampant.

Agriculture has boomed and crashed many times and we have never seen anything like this. However, the oil crowd who invaded this state seem to have a different set of morals and those who follow them to get a piece of their pocketbooks are damaging our state we were once proud of.

I congratulate Senator Heitkamp for her commitment to not only create awareness of human trafficking right here in Minot, but also for her courageous stand to hit Backpage hard. The outrageous activity going on in our alleys, motels, and Walmart parking lots has moved to a professional level. While the state officials brag about a few jobs, piles of money, and new jails the citizens have paid a high personal as well as financial price that carries the sound of silence. Murder for hire, organized crime on the reservation, and energy business scams involving millions of dollars are further oil related crimes.

People in the street and sitting around tables have had enough of this and are very disappointed in how our state has handled this serious issue. State officials are so mesmerized by barrels, billions, and bribes that they will not stand up to big oil or stand up for the citizens.
