Hold legislators accountable

Brandon Delvo

As 2016 begins to close and 2017 begins, so does a new legislative session.

This upcoming session will have many hard decisions to make. The state has faced a budget shortfall and future cuts seem inevitable. The legislature has several new faces along with a new governor. These upcoming weeks should be interesting.

Along with a new session is an endless amount of committee meetings, hearings and bills being submitted etc.

With this lead up to the new session I took the time to check the local & county newspapers and our District 2 legislators’ social media pages to see if any information was available from our elected officials on the upcoming session. None of what I mentioned as far as committee hearing times or the legislative calendar has been posted or brought out to the public from them. The session begins January 3, 2017.

If this is a preview of what they represent, which is less government, than keeping the people uninformed is achieving just that. They campaigned on a platform of, “Working Hard for You.” Posting basic information via social media, radio and newspaper to keep people informed on how to participate in government should be the easiest of tasks to work for the benefit of the public.

Your District 2 legislators are accountable to us, the people. Let’s keep them accountable.
