Stationary vehicles still a challenge

Although most of Minot’s roads have been well cleared of most snow, some continue to cite parked vehicles as a challenge.

Curb-side parked cars, particularly on smaller, residential streets can still be found covered in snow and with snow built up around them because of the lack of access to clearing machinery. Now, there are not a lot left resting on the side of the road – it’s been a much bigger problem in the past, and when snow persists for days.

Perhaps vehicle owners are being more responsible than in the past. Perhaps it’s the relatively short periods of snowfall, which then make it easier for people to get out about quicker.

Still, while the problem is less prevalent, it does exist.

Police simply do not have the resources needed to deal with each and every situation. Furthermore with the other challenges facing the city, do we really want our police occupied with this particular responsibility? Aren’t there other things we would rather police focus on.

Good job to most people who have appropriately relocated their vehicles when necessary to permit snow clearing crews to do their job as efficiently as possible – everyone benefits.

Hopefully others will do the same and it won’t be an issue again this winter.

Of course, no more large amounts of snowfall would also help. But that’s out of our control.

We can control our parking patterns, and we should.
