Well done Souris Basin Transportation

What can we say about the news that a new bus service between Minot and Bismarck is set to launch Feb. 2 other than – terrific.

Minot has been without bus service to Bismarck since June 2016. That is a long time to be without affordable transportation between two of the largest cities in North Dakota, and one being the state capital.

We made the case in 2016 that the area’s poorest and most vulnerable would be the losers when the Minot to Bismarck route ended. We stick by that and are therefore jubilant that all people but especially people without reliable transportation of their own will soon have a piece of their freedom back.

Souris Basin Transportation will be operating a bus line on Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays.

It plans to use a new 10-passenger, accessible van. If demand exceeds seating capacity, the agency can utilize its existing 14-passenger, accessible bus.

Also good news for riders and the surrounding communities is that stops will be made at Max, the Garrison corner, Underwood, Washburn and Wilton.

Let’s hope that the economics work out for the bus service so that it can continue.

We would be remiss if we did not give a hearty congratulations to Souris Basin, a highly dependable organization that already operates seven days a week in the region.

Well done Souris Basin Transportation and any supporters who assisted in restoring this vital link.
