Support victims of domestic violence this year
Today is the start of a new year, a fresh start – perhaps a fresh start on life for some. It’s surely a time to reflect and hopefully celebrate.
All that could be said 365 days a year about the victims of domestic violence who find refuge at a crisis center. A stay there can be a much needed breather in a safe home, but often becomes a significant turning point in the lives of victims and their children.
In this part of the state that safe home is the Domestic Violence Crisis Center. It’s been a part of the Minot community for more than 40 years with the mission to help those in need who have been faced with domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, stalking, and other crisis like those.
For people who are looking for a good cause to support in this new year, coming up on Jan. 12, the DVCC will be host its fourth annual Cause to Rock event. Starting at 6 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Riverside, the event is both a fundraiser and a way for the organization to get information out about who they are and what they do in Ward, Pierce, McHenry and Renville counties.
The event is the largest fundraiser of the year for DVCC, making Cause to Rock the perfect entry point to supporting the organization year-round.
The evening will start with appetizers and a cash bar at 6 p.m. At 7 p.m., there will be a sit down dinner and a guest speaker. The speaker, a survivor of domestic abuse, will tell her personal story and where she is now. Later, the local band Soulshine will take the stage and perform for guests until almost midnight.
Tickets for the event can be bought at the DVCC’s site, courage4change.org, or you can call 852-2258. A single’s ticket costs $35, a couple’s ticket costs $60, and those interested are able to reserve a table for eight for $300.
Chances are, buying tickets today will be the kindest act, the best decision that you’ve made all year. If not, you will at least be ringing in the new year on a positive note and giving someone else hope that 2018 will be better for them personally.
