Heed reasonable warnings

This week, Minot residents were once again warned about dangerous road conditions from the weather, and once again were asked to please avoid getting out on the road.

And once again warnings were met with most people paying attention to the warning, and a few people who did not.

There still needs to be more of the former and fewer of the latter.

It isn’t just a matter of one’s own safety. It’s a matter of tying up the efforts of emergency services dealing with people trapped on the road; and it’s a matter of blocking what few roadways remain open in the worst weather conditions. This was once again a problem this week, and authorities already had enough to deal with.

There are plenty of people who have lived here their entire lives and who pride themselves on being able to handle all aspects of the rugged winter – including driving. There are those who have dealt with worse conditions than we faced this week.

However, it really isn’t worth it when not paying proper attention to warnings puts other people at risk and makes it harder for street crews and emergency service providers.

Let’s try to make things as uncomplicated as possible for our road crews and safety personnel.
