Consider supporting Youth for Christ this holiday season
One of the many worthy causes in the Minot region put out a call for help this week.
Minot’s Youth for Christ is seeking donations so it can carry on, now and in the coming year. About 75 kids per week take part in the organization’s activities at “The Rock,” 318 5th Avenue NW.
According to a news article written by Minot Daily Staff Writer Andrea Johnson, which can be found elsewhere in this edition, executive director Larry Stenson says the money is needed to sustain programming, staff and building needs.
Why support Youth For Christ? For one, Stenson is a “peach” for working and socializing with these youths. And he’s good at it. You might have noticed that if you ever picked up Colorado peaches from Youth For Christ in the fall, a ritual for many area families.
Young people have all sorts of needs and they change year after year, graduating class after graduating class. Stenson, whose heart is in the right place, is on the front lines when it comes to penetrating that invisible barrier that always seems to exist between teenagers and grown adults, kids and parents. That was a valuable trait back when The Rock was established many years ago and it still is today.
As Johnson reported: “We’re running behind quite a bit this year,” said Stenson on Friday, who said some longtime supporters have moved or passed away.
Sounds like it’s time for somebody to stand in the gap, take a spot for a person who has already taken a turn. Not that there aren’t rewards that come with such giving. Certainly there are.
“What we’re asking people to do is consider a year end gift for Youth for Christ,” said Stenson. More consistent giving throughout the year would also help and be appreciated.
Ah, a Christmas gift that fits and would be used all year ’round.
