Jerry Black, 70, Minot,
passed away Monday,
January 7, 2019, at Trinity
Homes in Minot.
Jerry Ben Black was
born February 8, 1948, the
son of Joseph and Bonnie
(Parris) Black, in Ashe-
ville, NC. He was raised
and educated in Enka-
Candler, NC. He graduat-
ed from Enka High School
in 1966. During his junior
and senior years, he drove
the school bus.
Jerry enlisted in the Un-
ited States Air Force July
3, 1967. He proudly
served his country during
the Vietnam War as a jet
engine mechanic and was
honorably discharged July
2, 1971.
Jerry married Linda
Martin, August 8, 1970, in
Anamoose, ND. They
made their home in
Minot, where he worked
at Walman Optical as an
Optician for 39 years and
worked part-time at M&H
Gas Station for 38 years.
He was a member of
Christ Lutheran Church in
Minot and the Dakota
Cruisers Car Club, where
he served as vice-
president. He was a past
member of the Eagles
Aerie and Minot VFW
Post #753.
Jerry enjoyed deer hunt-
ing with his relatives,
helping on the farm, visit-
ing with friends and
spending time with his
family. Jerry was meticu-
lous about his yard and
his cars. All his vehicles
would get washed weekly
even if they hadn’t been
driven. He would say they
got dusty from sitting in
the garage. Jerry loved to
hop in the car with Linda
and go for a long drive
looking at the North Dako-
ta countryside. He was an
avid NASCAR fan and at-
tended the Nodak Speed-
way. In his later years, he
enjoyed the comfort and
companionship of his
pound puppy, Charley.
His loving family in-
cludes: Linda, wife of 48
years, Minot; daughters,
Shondell Gantzer (Stuart
Hammer), Minot, and
Heather (Tim) Kelley,
Bismarck; grandchildren,
Justin Gantzer, Minot, Jor-
dyn (Joseph) Adams,
Bismarck, Bailey Gantzer,
Minot, Bristol Kelley,
Bismarck; brothers, Tony
(Roxie) Black, Henderson-ville, NC, and Earl
(Karole) Black, Fletcher,
NC; and numerous nieces,
nephews and cousins.
Jerry was preceded in
death by his parents; and
sister, Penny Woods.
Memorial Service: Sa-
turday, January 12, 2019,
at 10:30 a.m. at Christ
Lutheran Church, 502
17th ST NW, Minot, ND
58703.
Interment: Will be a
private ceremony at a
later date at the North
Dakota Veterans
Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
Visitation: There will be
no reviewal, but friends
may sign the register book
onSaturday one hour pri-
or to the service at the
church.
