Hazel Elizabeth Irene

Nelson age 104, of Crosby,

ND passed away on

Wednesday, January 16,

2019 at St. Luke’s Sunrise

Care Center in Crosby.

Funeral services will be

1:00 PM on Saturday,

January 19, 2019 at Con-

cordia Lutheran Church

in Crosby with Pastor Em-

ily Shipman officiating.

Burial will follow at Con-

cordia Lutheran Cemetery

in Crosby. Visitation will

be 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM on

Friday, January 18, 2019

at Stakston-Martin Fun-

eral Home in Crosby and

also one hour before the

service at the church.

Hazel was born on Au-

gust 25, 1914 the daughter

of Evan and Lula Maude

(Lane) Nygaard in Alamo,

North Dakota. She was

raised in the Alamo area

attending Garnet Town-

ship Grade School and

graduating from Alamo

High School.

Hazel married Bennie

Nelson on May 1, 1937.

They moved to the Bert

Sandberg’s farm in 1942

and lived their until they

retired in 1989. She

cooked at the hospital for

a short time, but spent

most of her time as a farm

wife. They had three sons,

Gene, Jeremy and Bernde-

an. Hazel was involved

with Farmers Union, Wife

Organization, Ladies Aid

Homemakers, and Quilt-

ing. She also enjoyed trav-

eling, collecting cards,

scrapbooks, salt and

pepper shakers, knitting,

baking, sewing and cro-

cheting. Hazel moved to

Crosby in 1989 and lived

at the Wallin Manor. She

later moved to St. Luke’s

Sunrise Care Center

where she resided until

her death.

Hazel was preceded in

death by her parents, hus-

band, Bennie, sons, Gene

and Berndean and

daughter-in-law Marilyn

(Olson) Nelson sister,

Louella and brother, Mel-

vin.

She is survived by son,

Jeremy (Connie) Nelson,

ten grandchildren, twenty

four great-grandchildren

and eight great-great-

grandbabies with one on

the way.

Memorials are suggest-

ed to St. Luke’s Sunrise

Care Center, Cancer Fund

or Concordia Lutheran

Church.
