Donald L. Farden, 81,

Minot, ND, formerly of

Maxbass, ND, passed

away Wednesday, No-

vember 7, 2018, at Trinity


Donald Leroy Farden

was born October 20,

1937 at Westhope, ND, to

Alvin (Ole) and Helen

(Haakenson) Farden. He

was the youngest of six

children and was raised

in Maxbass and graduated

from high school in 1955.

He graduated from

Wahpeton School of Sci-

ence with a refrigeration


Donnie enjoyed enter-

taining his family and

friends playing music. He

played in two bands, The

Four Deuces and The

Road Apples and enter-

tained at many parties

with his guitar and banjo.

He entertained at nursing

and retirement homes and

one time when leaving to

play, he said to his

daughter, “You know why

I do this don’t you?…. It

will give me one more

sentence in my obituary.”

Donnie married Marie

Thorenson on November

25, 1967, at Dovre Luth-

eran Church in Newburg.

From this union, three

daughters, Angela, Allison

and Annette, were born.

Donnie and Marie lived

in Minot after they were

married where Donnie

worked for Northern Bot-

tling Company. They

moved to Maxbass in

1969 and lived there for

48 years. In the early

years, Donnie worked for

Farden House Movers and

later Farden Construction.

Donnie worked for Portal

Pipeline Company and

Enbridge Inc. for 30 years

and retired in 2000. They

moved to Minot in 2015.

Donnie was a member

of English Lutheran

Church of Maxbass and

later Christ Lutheran

Church of Minot.

Donnie enjoyed golf

and along with his friends

they established the Max-

bass Golf Club where they

enjoyed many years of

golf tournaments there.

Donnie enjoyed watching

Twins baseball and Vik-

ings football. His grand-

children had a very spe-

cial place in his heart.

Grandpa Donnie was in-

terested in all their activi-ties with sports and


Donnie was preceded

in death by his parents,

his brothers, Ardell Far-

den and Russell Farden,

sister, Norma Andersen,

sisters-in-law, Ruby

Berentson and Bernice

Farden, brothers-in-law,

Emil Andersen, Jerone

Berentson and Larry

McIsaac, nephew, Jerry

Farden; and great

nephew, Patrick Fund-


Donald is survived by

his wife of 51 years,

Marie; his daughters,

Angela (David) Hoff, Bot-

tineau, ND, Allison Far-

den, Nashville, TN, and

Annette (Michael)

McGrath, West Fargo, ND;

his grandchildren, Myah

and Connor Radtke, Mol-

ly, Madison, Michaela and

Macy McGrath; brother,

Kenneth Farden, Maxbass;

sister, Carol (Fred) Boger,

Minot; sister-in-law,

Joanne Farden, Minot;

and numerous nieces,

nephews and cousins.

Funeral: Monday, No-

vember 12, 2018, at 1:00

p.m. at Christ Lutheran-

Church, Minot.

Interment: Sunset

Memorial Gardens, Minot,

2 to 4 p.m. at Thompson-

Larson Funeral Home,
