John Fahn

John Fahn, 94, Minot,
passed away Saturday,
September 29, 2018 at a
Minot assisted living facil-
ity.
John was born on June
24, 1924 in Devils Lake,
North Dakota to Michael
and Philipina (Duchscher-er) Fahn. Tragically, his
mother died in an auto-
mobile accident south of
Minot when John was five
years old. His father
remarried and the family
moved to a farm in the
Balfour area where he was
raised in the mixed family
that included the children
of his father, step-mother,
and their children.
John volunteered into
the US Army at the age of
18, serving his country for
three years in the pacific
operations during World
War II. After the war, John
was honorably discharged
from the armed forces. He
then went to work as an
electrician during the
height of the REA rural
electrification period.
John also worked for vari-
ous contractors in Drake,
ND, Williston, ND, Sid-
ney, MT, and Miles City,
MT. In October 1948,
John married Rose Gerger
and together they had
three sons. In March
1957, the family moved to
Minot where John began
working at the Minot Air
Force Base. For over 30
years he served as an
electrical general foreman
and electrical superinten-
dant in the civil en-
gineering squadron before
retiring in December
1987. Rose passed away
in 2002.
John was a member of
National Association of
Retired Federal Employ-
ees (NARFE) and served
as treasurer for five years
and president of the
Minot chapter for four
years. He was also a
member of AARP and
TRIAD/SALT organiza-
tions. John also volun-
teered at Trinity Hospital
under the RSVP program.
John is survived by his
sons: Patrick (Marcia)
Fahn, Bismarck, Brian
Fahn, Fairfax, VA, and
Bruce Fahn, Minot; grand-
children: J’Patrick Fahn,
James Fahn, and
Julie-Rose (James) Hunt-
ington; Seven great-
grandchildren; brother-in-
laws Emil and Anthony
Gerger; and numerous
nieces, nephews, cousins,
and extended family.
He was preceded in
death by his parents;
wife; sister Margaret
Fahn; brothers Simon and
Joesph Fahn; brother-in-
laws John, Bernard
“Barney”, and Joseph
Gerger; and sister-in-law
Ann Geisinger.
A Mass of Christian
Burial in his honor will
be held on Tuesday, Oc-
tober 23, 2018 at 11:00
a.m. at St. John the Apos-
tle Catholic Church in
Minot with visitation to
begin one hour prior to
the start of the service.
Burial will be at Rosehill
Memorial Park in Minot.
