Jean Vendsel

May 13, 1931-Aug. 2, 2018

Jean Helen Vendsel, 87,

Minot, formerly of Lans-

ford, died Thursday, Aug.

2, 2018, at a Mohall nurs-

ing home.

She was born May 13,

1931, in Bottineau, to

James and Thora (Finstad)

Whetter. She attended

rural schools in North

Dakota and graduated

from Glenburn High

School in 1949. She at-

tended one year of nurs-

ing classes at the Bot-

tineau School of Forestry.

She worked as an aide for

a time at the North Dakota

School for the Deaf in De-

vils Lake.

Jean met Dale Vendsel,

of Lansford, while she

was working in Mohall.

They were married Feb.

14, 1953. They resided in

the Lansford area where

Dale worked for oil com-

panies and also farmed.

They eventually moved

out to the Grano farm-

stead in 1975.

Jean was active in the

community, church and

school. She was a member

of the United Methodist

Church and taught Sun-

day school for many

years. Having four

daughters and two sons,

she was active and in-

volved with the Girl

Scouts and school events,

baking many, many pies

for school activities. Com-

ing home from school, her

children would often

open the door to fresh

buns and a spotless

After Dale’s passing on

July 20, 2002, Jean moved

to Minot. She became a

member of Our

Redeemer’s Lutheran

Brethren Church, Minot.

She was kept busy with

many visits from her chil-

dren, grandchildren,

great-grandchildren and

friends. She kept up on all

the sports activities and

saved every newspaper

clipping and had them or-

ganized. Her great-

grandchildren enjoyed

visiting her at her condo

where she had plenty of

toys, games and ice cream

treats. Jean always en-

joyed getting visits with

her brothers and sisters,

and her friends from the

Grano and Lansford areas.

In December of 2017,

she moved to The Wel-

lington assisted living

center in Minot. In her

few months of living

there, she formed a bond

with staff members and

felt very comfortable

there. The last 13 days,

she spent under the lov-

ing care of the staff at the

Good Samaritan Society,

Mohall. Whoever met Jean

over the years always

commented on what a

kind heart and sweet lady

she was.
