Shawn Marie Brockey,

50, Minot, ND, passed

away Tuesday, July 10,

2018, following a coura-

geous battle with cancer

at her home, surrounded

by those that love her.

Shawn Marie Nelson

was born December 5,

1967, the daughter of Kent

and Judy (Giesen) Nelson,

in Minot, ND. She was

raised and educated in

Minot and graduated from

Minot High School in

1986. She was baptized

and confirmed at Augus-

tana Lutheran Church in

Minot.

Shawn was once mar-

ried to Lance Brockey,

and from this union one

son, Garrett, was born.

The couple would later

divorce.

Shawn worked for a

number of years at both

B&D Market and Market-

place Foods in Minot.

Most recently, she worked

as a Teacher’s Aide for

Minot Head Start.

Shawn loved spending

time with Garrett, and to-

gether they worked on

home improvement pro-

jects, attended Monster

Truck Shows, spent time

at the lake and went

camping with friends. She

loved going to concerts,

and in 2016 she and Gar-

rett attended KISS at the

North Dakota State Fair

for the first time together.

She had a wonderful

sense of humor and en-

joyed the little things in

life such as listening to

80s music, going out for

Mexican food and spend-

ing time with her core

group of friends she had

maintained since high

school. She will be deeply

missed by all who knew

her.

Surviving family in-

cludes:

Son, Garrett Brockey,

Minot; parents, Kent and

Judy Nelson, Minot; sis-

ter, Nicole Walcker,

Minot; nieces and

nephew, Shelby, Emily

and Jordan; grandmother,

Arlene Giesen, Mandan;

and numerous aunts, un-

cles and cousins.

Shawn was preceded in

death by her maternal

grandfather, Eugene

Giesen and her paternal

grandparents, Ilard and

Ina Nelson.

Memorial Service:

Monday, July 23, 2018, at

1:30 p.m. at Thompson-

Larson Funeral Home,

Minot, ND.

Visitation: There will be

no reviewal, but friends

are invited to sign the

guest register book an

hour before the service at

the funeral home.

Memorials: In lieu of

flowers and plants,

memorials are preferred

to a care fund set up in

Garrett’s name at Prairie

Federal Credit Union.
