Ralph Gullickson

Jan. 11, 1939-April 11, 2018

Ralph C. Gullickson, 79,

Benedict, formerly of

Minot, passed away

peacefully Wednesday,

April 11, 2018, in his

home with his family and

pastor by his side.

Ralph Carl Gullickson

was born on January 11,

1939, in Max, ND, the son

of Carl and Lillian (West-

man) Gullickson. He was

raised on the family farm

outside of Benedict, ND,

and was baptized and

confirmed at Concordia

Lutheran Church in

Benedict. Elementary

school was attended in

Benedict, he also went to

school at the Dakota Luth-

eran Academy and gra-

duated from Velva High

school in 1957. Following

his primary education, he

attended Wahpeton State

College of Science, The

North Dakota School of

Forestry in Bottineau, and

earned a teaching degree

at the University of North

Dakota Grand Forks.

On July 26th, 1970,

Ralph was united in mar-

riage to Georgean Dislevy

at Oak Valley Lutheran

Church in Velva. They

made their home in Minot

and visited several

churches before settling

in at Zion Lutheran

Church of Minot. Son,

Greg, came along in 1974

to complete their family.

Together the three shared

traveling adventures both

on two wheels as well as

three and four. Ralph was

an auto mechanics educa-

tor within the Minot Pub-

lic School System for

nearly thirty years. Upon

retirement they remained

in Minot until the 2011

flood, when they relocat-

ed to the family farm near

Benedict, full time.

Ralph was a member at

Concordia Lutheran

Church of Benedict, ND,

and then Zion Lutheran

Church of Minot, where

he was active in the choir

and council. He was also

a member of the Harley

Owners Group (H.O.G.).

Ralph greatly enjoyed

working with his hands.

He tinkered, rebuilt and

fixed engines and equip-

ment of all kinds. He

loved spending time at

the farm watching things

grow, and especially en-

joyed riding and working

on Harley-Davidson

motorcycles. He was

proud to display the

American flag in his yard

every day in honor of

those who serve our coun-

try. Ralph loved to sing,

was a charter member of

Lydia’s Diner and had his

own special table at Char-

lies Cafe. He brought

much joy and love to all

he met and visited. Fami-

ly was important; his faith

in God was central in life.

He greatly loved the tradi-

tion of farming carried out

by his family and soaked

up the love graciously lav-

ished upon him by his

elder sisters. Ralph was a

kind, generous and com-

passionate man, a beloved

husband, adoring father

and grandfather. He ex-

emplified the qualities of

respect, reverence and

loyalty and leaves behind

the legacy of a life
