Alice Christine Korgel

was born June 8, 1931, the

daughter of Leo and

Jeanette (Kjos) Korgel, on

the family farm north of

Surrey, ND, where her

parents had a dairy farm.

She attended Maryland

Township School District

#144 which was located

one mile north of the


Alice was once married

to Jerry Burns. From this

union, five children were

born, Becky, Larry, Garry,

Clay, and Roberta. Later,

Alice married Richard E.

Johnson December 30,

1982, in Minot, ND. They

made their home in Minot

until Richard passed away

December 24, 2005.

Alice owned and

operated a daycare for

many years. She loved

having children around

and enjoyed watching her

grandchildren and


whenever she could. Alice

enjoyed gardening, em-

broidery work, collecting

ceramic chickens, and

watching golf on the

television or playing

cards. In addition, despite

never having a driver’s

license, Alice loved to

watch car races on TV or

go to the NODAK Speed-

way on Sunday nights.

Food was also an im-

portant part of her life.

She will always be

remembered for her can-

ning, making jelly and sal-

sa, or cooking for family

and friends. For many

years she was in the

TOPS program and, in

2000, she was elected as

Queen of TOPS for North


She was a member of

Bethany Lutheran Church

in Minot. Her

happy-go-lucky attitude

towards life will be

missed by all who knew

Minot; sister-in-law, Lois

Lindahl, Stanley, ND, and

Carol Johnson, Westmin-

ster, CO; and numerous

Alice was preceded in

death by: her parents;

husband, Richard John-

son, Sr.; brothers, Harold,

Robert, and Leo Korgel;

sister, Donna Sorenson;

brothers-in-law, Alfred

Schieve, Ronald Soren-

son, Clayton Lindahl, and

Donald Johnson;

sister-in-law, Janice Kor-

gel; stepdaughter, Rose

Haaland; and nephews,

Craig and Scott Sorenson.

Funeral: Wednesday,

April 18, 2018, at 10:30

a.m. at Bethany Lutheran

Church, Minot.

Interment: Sunset

Thompson-Larson Fun-

eral Home, Minot.
