Sarah L. Boyko

Sarah L. Boyko, 96,

Minot, passed away Fri-

day, March 9, 2018, at

Trinity Hospital in Minot.

Sarah L. Valenziano

was born December 18,

1921 in New York City,

New York to Dominic and

Angelina (Giaracca)

Valenziano. She was

raised and educated on

Staten Island, New York,

where she graduated from

Port Richmond High

School in 1940. She

worked as a telephone

switchboard operator for a

time.

Sarah was united in

marriage to Leo Scales on

June 24, 1945. Leo passed

away in November of

1946.

On February 25, 1950,

Sarah was united in mar-

riage to Edward E. Boyko

on Staten Island. Together

they raised two sons,

Frank “Chip” and Kevin.

In the 1960’s, Sarah began

her career with the S.S.

White Dental Manufactur-

ing Company, the world’s

largest maker of dental

equipment, where she

worked as a secretary be-

fore rising to the position

of gold room manager.

Following her retire-

ment in the mid-1980’s,

she and Edward moved to

a retirement village in

Lakehurst, New Jersey.

They continued to be very

active in the Masonic

Lodge and the Order of

the Eastern Star. They en-

joyed taking cruises and

traveling together to many

places including North

Dakota, Hawaii, Italy,

Spain, and Greece, before

Edward passed away on

April 5, 1999.

Sarah moved to Somer-

set Court in Minot in

2008, where she resided

for the past 10 years and

made many friends

among the staff and

residents.

Sarah’s hobbies includ-

ed playing Mahjong,

Bingo, and Skipbo. She

enjoyed reading romance

and western novels, oil

painting, home decorat-

ing, and Italian cooking

including homemade pas-

ta, cannoli and Venetian

cookies.

Most of all, above

everything else, Sarah

treasured spending time

with her family and

friends, who will miss her

dearly.

Sarah is survived by:

her sons, Frank (Janice)

Boyko, Simsbury, CT, and

Kevin (Jo) Boyko, Minot;

grandchildren, Alison

(Chris) Wilcox, Stephen

Boyko, Shawn (Ashley)

Boyko, Tasha (Cody)

Schnabel, and Derek Boy-

ko; great-grandchildren,

Colten and Hailee Schna-

bel; and Georgia and Alice

Boyko; sister-in-laws, Mae

Valenziano,and Melodee

Bryantt; nieces and

nephews, Frank

(Stephanie) Valenziano,

Angela Ross, and Mark

(Lori) Valenziano; special

niece Ruth Moe; and

numerous other nieces,

nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in

death by her parents; hus-

bands, Leo and Edward;

brother, Frank Valenzi-

ano; and nephews, Carl

(Kate) and Philip

(Maureen) Valenziano.

Memorial Service: Sa-

turday, March 17, 2018, at

11:00 am at

Thompson-Larson Fun-

eral Home Chapel, Minot.

Visitation: There will

be no reviewal, but

friends may sign the regis-

ter book on Saturday one

hour prior to the service

at the funeral home.

Burial will be at the

Brigadier General William

C. Doyle Veterans

Memorial Cemetery in

Wrightstown, New Jersey,

at a later date.

Memorials: In lieu of

flowers, memorials are

preferred.
