Minot, ND, passed away
Wednesday, March 14,
2018, at Trinity Homes in
Minot.
Bernard Joseph
Schaefer was born to Ed-
ward and Margaret (Frost)
Schaefer on July 4, 1931,
in St. Joseph’s Hospital in
Minot. He was raised on
the family farm which
was located in Afton
Township of Ward Coun-
ty, south of Minot, and at-
tended a country school
in the area. He later at-
tended St. Leo’s School,
graduating in 1949.
Upon graduating from
high school, he went to
work for Minot Builders
Supply of Minot. In 1952,
he enlisted in the United
States Navy and proudly
served his country during
the Korean War. Bernard
was united in marriage to
Elaine Korgel November
9, 1954. Following his
honorable discharge from
the Navy in 1956, he went
to work for the Glidden
Paint Co. for five years. In
1960, he went to work for
Boise Cascade and
worked for them for 25
years until they closed
their mill. He then bought
and rented apartments
and houses until his re-
tirement.
He was a member of
Our Lady of Grace Cathol-
ic Church in Minot.
He enjoyed spending
time at his cabin at Lake
Sakakawea and fishing.
His loving family in-
cludes: wife of 63 years,
Elaine; two sons, Lorrie
(Kathy), Missoula, MT
and David (Molly), Cody,
WY; two grandchildren,
Chris (Aneesha) Schaefer,
Grand Forks, ND, and
Heather (Travis) Nelson,
Whitefish, MT; four
great-grandchildren,
Miles, Charlie, and Oliver
Nelson and Saanvi
Schaefer; brother, Larry
(Lucille) Schaefer, Austin,
TX; and numerous nieces,
nephews and cousins.
Bernie was preceded in
death by: his parents;
brothers, Ted, Harold,
Francis, Edward and Leo-
nard; sisters, Loretta, Mar-
garet and Mary Kay.

al: Saturday, March 17,
2018, at 10:30 a.m. at Our
Lady of Grace Catholic
Church, Minot.
Interment: Rosehill
Memorial Park, Minot,
ND.
Visitation: Friday from
4 to 6 p.m. at
Thompson-Larson Fun-
eral Home, Minot.
