Roy Erickson

MOHALL – Roy Edwin

Erickson, 90, Mohall, died

Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2018, at

a Mohall nursing home.

He was born July 10,

1927, to Louis and Luver-

na (Porter) Erickson on

their farm near Mohall,

where he was raised with

his other five siblings:

sister, Hazel; and broth-

ers, Robert “Bob,” Earl,

Donald “Don,” and Dale.

He attended Mohall High


Roy was inducted into

the Army on Nov. 18,

1950. After being drafted,

he was trained as a

locomotive engineer by

the Army at Fort Eustis,

Va., and served in Korea

during four campaigns of

the war. While in the war,

his job was to operate a

locomotive, first a steam

engine and then a diesel

electric engine, to take

supplies from Pusan to

the front. He was honor-

ably discharged on Nov.

11, 1952, and returned to

North Dakota.

Roy married Reta Tovey

on Sept. 9, 1952, in Bil-

lings, Mont., where they

eloped with another cou-

ple. They raised six chil-

dren while they lived in

Mohall, Berthold, Nashua,

Mont., prior to returning

to Mohall.

Roy worked as a

pumper in oil industry,

did construction work

which included Great

Plains Supply, and was a

parts man for Internation

al Harvester, Berentson

Ford, and Savelkoul Ford.

He retired in 1991. His

wife of 65 years, Reta,

died March 19, 2017.

Roy was a member of

Zion Lutheran Church,

Mohall, and the George T.

Taylor American Legion

Post #52, Mohall. He

served as co-chairman of

the Mohall American Le-

gion Summer Youth Re-

creation program and

coached the girls’ summer

high school slow pitch

softball team for a few

years. Roy also operated

the scoreboard for Mohall

Yellowjacket Home foot-

ball games for many,

many years.

Roy and Reta loved to

dance, stopping at casi-

nos, and enjoyed attend-

ing high school sporting

events. He was an avid

basketball fan and the two

of them attended many of

the Class B Girls’ and

Boys’ State Basketball

Tournaments. They also

had several TVs on in the

house watching the

NCAA tournaments, Little

League Baseball, and the

Olympics. They also en-

joyed attending the Norsk

Hostfest when they could.

They enjoyed their time at

the Mouse River Park in

their cabin and lot. They

also loved the time they

spent with their grand-

children and great-

at Zion Lutheran Church,

munity Cemetery, Mohall.

Zion Lutheran Church.
