JoAnn Olson

JoAnn Olson, 60, Minot,

died Tuesday, February 6,

2018 in a Minot hospital.

JoAnn was born Sep-

tember 15, 1957 in Devils

Lake, North Dakota to

Darrell and Carol (Auck)

Olson. She was raised on

a farm near Webster,

North Dakota until she

was nine and the family

moved to a farm outside

of Edmore, North Dakota.

JoAnn graduated from Ed-

more High School in

1975. Following gradua-

tion, JoAnn spent many

years as a CNA. In the

mid-nineties, she fulfilled

her father’s wishes by

becoming a Licensed

Practicing Nurse. She

would continue with this

career until health issues

forced her to retire.

JoAnn loved children.

Sadly, she was never

blessed with any children

of her own but she was al-

ways considered a second

mother by her nieces and

nephews who affec-

tionately called her “Aun-

tie JoJo”. After her retire-

ment, she continued this

tradition by spending all

the time she could with

her grand-nieces and


Sewing was one of her

most favorite pastimes.

JoAnn loved to stitch to-

gether aprons or make

Halloween outfits and pa-

jamas for her nieces and

nephews. She was also al-

ways willing to teach any-

one the finer points of

sewing. JoAnn loved

cooking and baking and

always made sure every-

one was well-fed. In addi-

tion, JoAnn loved to go

fishing and shopping.

JoAnn is survived by:

her life partner Carl Short;

brothers Dean (Dawn) Ol-

son and Keith Olson; sis-

ter LaVonne Hagens; and

many treasured nieces,

nephews, grand-nieces,

grand-nephews, and


She was preceded in

death by: her parents and

sister LaRae


A funeral service will

be held: at the

Thompson-Larson Fun-

eral Home Chapel in

Minot on Saturday, Febru-

ary 10, 2018 at 2:00 pm

with cremation to follow.

There will be a visitation

held on Friday, February

9, 2018 from 3-6 pm at

Thompson-Larson Fun-

eral Home in Minot. In
