James Harold Sveen

May 16,1945-Feb. 2, 2018

James Harold Sveen was born May 16, 1945, to Melvin and Lillian Sveen in Williston, ND. He grew up on the

family’s farm near

Sanish and New-

town, ND where he

worked hard and loved

horses. He joined the Un-

ited States Navy when he

was 17 and saw the

world. He often joked that

him and friend Skip

joined the Navy and

“couldn’t swim a stroke.”

He met Dana Sue Rawl-

ings in Minneapolis, MN

when he was a patient in

the VA hospital, and the

two married November

2nd, 1968. He received

his Accounting certificate

at Moorhead Tech when

the couple lived in Fargo,

ND in their early years.

The couple later moved to

Rolette, ND and later

Minot, ND to raise their

two children.

James loved his family.

He enjoyed much fun

travel with them. He also

loved Westerns, reading,

fishing, Elvis, movies and

TV, classic cars, Minneso-

ta Vikings football, music

and playing cards and

games.

James is preceded in

death by: his parents Mel-

vin and Lillian, in-laws

Fred and Nadine, and

brother-in-law’s Wendall

and Bob.

He is survived by: his

loving wife of nearly 50

years Dana Sue Sveen, his

daughter Shonna (Josh)

and Bobby (Jordan);

granddaughters Lilly

Ryder and Grace Hellen,

and a new grandbaby ar-

riving this spring. He is

also survived by his sis-

ters Bonnie (Bob), Debbie

(Randy) and Diane

(Chuck); and his brothers

John (Connie), Dale,

Russell (Lete) and Tony;

as well as many beloved

cousins, nieces and

nephews.

James’ funeral will be

this Tuesday, February

6th at 11 a.m. at First

Luthern Church in Minot,

ND. This service will be

open to all family and

friends and is followed by

a luncheon at the church.
