Minot, passed away on

Monday, February 05,

2018, in a Minot nursing


Betty Ann Nelson was

born on January 17, 1929,

the daughter of Wilmot

and Lydia (Marzlof) Nel-

son at Trinity Hospital in

Minot, ND. When she was

two days old, there was

an emergency baptism,

sponsored by Anna Nel-

son, who named her Betty

Ann Alvina Nelson after

herself and Betty’s mater-

nal grandmother. Betty at-

tended Roosevelt grade

School in Minot, and gra-

duated from Minot High

School in 1947. Following

her graduation, she was

employed at Montgomery

Ward’s as a sales clerk.

On December 5, 1949,

Betty Ann was united in

marriage to her high

school sweetheart Leo-

nard Johnson in Minot.

They made their home in

Minot, where they became

the proud parents of three

sons, Lance, Levi and

Lindsey “Inky.”

Throughout her life-

time, Betty always en-

joyed monthly dinner

with member of the class

of ’47. She truly loved her

family, cherishing time

she spent with her

grandchildren Cheyenne,

Coley and Caden and her

nieces and nephews,

especially Wendi and Ray.

Betty was a member of

the Zion Lutheran

Church, Ward County

Heritage Society, Human

Society, Danish Society,

served as a clerk at the

polls for three presidential

elections. She also volun-

teered at Trinity Health in

the gift shop for several


Betty is survived by:

Husband of 68 years, Leo-

nard; sons: Levi (Peggy)

Johnson, Minot; Lindsey

“Inky”of Oklahoma City,

OK; grandchildren: Chey-

enne (Ryan) Jundt, Fargo,

Coley (Melissa), Caden

(Jennifer) of Denham

Springs, LA; five


Sisters-in-law: Liz Nel-

son, Los Gatos, CA, Mar-

garet (Muggs) Nelson and

Arlene Nelson of Minot.

Numerous nieces,

nephews and cousins also


Betty was preceded in

death by: her parents, son

Lance, brothers Willis,

Dennis and Wayne Nel-

February 8, 2018 from 4-7

pm at Thompson Larson

11:00 am at Zion Lutheran

Church, Minot

Burial: Rosehill

Memorial Park, Minot
