82, Minot, passed away

Monday, January 8, 2018,

in her home.

Delphine Helen

Blumhagen was born De-

cember 9, 1935, the

daughter of Dan and

Helen (Aldinger)

Blumhagen, in Harvey,

ND. She grew up in the

Drake area. As a young

girl, she took care of

young children which she

fondly remembered.

On June 6, 1954, Del-

phine married the love of

her life, LaVern R.

Michalenko in Drake, ND.

They made their home on

a farm near Bergen, until

1962, when they moved to

Oregon. They lived in

Oregon for a short time

before moving back to

North Dakota. They then

made their home in Bal-

four, where she milked

cows, raised chickens and

planted big gardens which

she preserved lovingly for

her family. During this

time, she made full meals

and fresh bread for the

workers who were in the

field. Everyone who was

lucky enough to taste her

specialty cheese pockets,

enjoyed them very much.

She especially enjoyed

making German dishes

and baking many goodies

for her children,

grandchildren, and

great-grandchildren. She

embroidered many sets of

dish towels for her family.

Her past time was playing

skipbo with family and


They retired from farm-

ing in 1990, and she and

LaVern moved to Minot.

LaVern passed away Janu-

ary 1, 2009.

She was a former

member of Balfour Luth-

eran Church, and the

Drake Lutheran Church.

She was currently a

member of Christ Luth-

eran Church, Minot.

Her loving family in-

cludes: children, Patsy

Westhope, Randy

Michalenko and his com-

panion, Sherry, Deering,

Sandra Hanes, Amarillo,

TX, and Lee (Karline)

Harris and her friend,

Elizabeth Hanes, Ariel

Michalenko, and Kody


20 great-grandchildren;

brothers-in-law, Lloyd

Fiedler, Wisconsin;

nieces, Laureen Jacobson

and Randie Jay

Blumhagen; nephew, Lon-

nie Schott; many cousins,

and special friends,

Jolynn, Angie and Jacob

Klein, Bismarck.

Delphine was preceded

in death by her parents;

husband, LaVern; grand-

son, Randy Michalenko,

Jr; father-in-law and

mother-in-law, Jack and

Tillie Michalenko; sister,

LuVella Schott; brothers,

Melton, Wilbur and

Harold Blumhagen.

Funeral: Monday, Janu-

ary 15, 2018,at 11:00 a.m.

at Christ LutheranChurch,

at 10:00 am at Christ

LutheranChurch, Minot.

Visitation: Sunday

from 1 to 4 p.m. at

Thompson-Larson Fun-

eral Home, Minot.

Interment: Monday at

2:00 pm at Kief Cemetery,

Kief, ND.
