Minot, passed away

peacefully on Friday, De-

cember 1, 2017 in a Minot


Mavis Ione Thompson

was born on December 29,

1924, the daughter of Mar-

tin and Evelyn (Norberg)

Thompson in Williston,

ND. She was raised and

educated in Coteau,

where she graduated from

High School. During

World War II, she moved

to Alameda, CA, where

she worked for the

Department of the Navy at

the Alameda Air Station.

Following the war, she re-

turned to Coteau and

worked for the Burke

County Draft Board in

Bowbells, ND.

On February 26, 1946,

Mavis was united in mar-

riage to William “Bill”

Lyon in Minot. They

made their home in

Minot, where Mavis was

active with the Zion Luth-

eran Ladies Circle, and

the Ladies Auxiliary of

the United Transportation

Union, formerly known as

the Brotherhood of Rail-

road Trainmen. Together

Mavis and Bill enjoyed

many summers at their

cabin at Strawberry Lake

with family and friends.

Bill passed away De-

cember 10, 1993.

Surviving family in-

cludes: Sons, Dennis (Su-

san) Lyon, Bismarck and

John (Carolyn) Lyon,

Minot; daughter, Diane

(Mike) Chilson, Minot;

eight grandchildren; thir-

teen great-grandchildren;

brother, Kenneth Thomp-

son, Devils Lake, ND;

sister-in-law, Issie

Thompson, Minot; several

nieces, nephews and

cousins also survive.

Mavis was preceded in

death by: her parents;

husband; and brother,

Robert D. Thompson.

Funeral Service: Fri-

day, December 8, 2017 at

10 a.m. at Zion Lutheran

Church, Minot, ND.

Burial: Rosehill

Memorial Park, Minot,
