Michael Hemphill
Michael (Mike), loving
husband of Mary, son of
Max and Ann Hemphill,
passed away October 19,
2017. Mike was raised in
Sawyer, North Dakota. He
attended Sawyer School.
During high school and
after he held various jobs
till he found his niche at
Dakota Retreaders. Mike
would eventually buy
Harry’s Tire Service,
Dakota Retreaders and
started Dakota Truck and
Farm. In 2015 he sold the
business to his
son-in-law.
Mike married Mary
Washek, July 21, 1984 in
Velva, North Dakota and
together they raised
daughters Kat and Dana.
Mike was a life-long
sports enthusiast. If it in-
volved a ball he was in-
terested. From a young
age Mike was involved in
pee-wee, midget and high
school baseball and
basketball. After high
school he spent many
hours at open gym at
Sawyer High School.
Mike and his brother had
heated discussions about
the Red Soxs and the
Cubs. Mike played many
rounds of golf with family
and friends, which was
very entertaining as clubs
would fly. His latest pas-
sion was pickleball and
boating at their place in
Florida.
Mike’s cup over flowed
with love when it came to
his grandchildren Heili,
Timothy, Ashlyn, Reagan,
and Chloe. There was not
enough time in the day
when it came to spending
it with these five.
