Roberge-Malling, 92,

Garrison, formerly of

Douglas, died on Satur-

day, October 14, 2017 at

the Benedictine Living

Center in Garrison.

Memorial services will be

held on Wednesday at

11:00 am at St. Nicholas

Catholic Church in Garris-on. A rosary will be said

prior to services at 10:00

am. Burial will be at Holy

Cross Catholic Cemetery

in Douglas.

LaVerne was born

March 3, 1925 to Mathew

and Margaret (Finken)

Lies, in Douglas, ND,

where she was raised and

educated. She married

Rene’ Roberge in 1946.

They moved to the farm

in Douglas, ND in 1947.

This is where their two

children, Gordon and Di-

anne were born. Their

family moved to Willow

City, ND in 1955, where

she worked at the Notre

Dame Academy and at-

tended Minot State

University in the sum-

mers and evenings.

Through hard work she

received a Bachelor’s de-

gree in education.

After Rene’s passing,

she and her children

moved into the parish rec-

tory and worked as the

housekeeper. When the

academy closed in 1968,

she and her children

moved to Rolla, ND. At

this time she taught at the

Turtle Mountain Indian

Reservation in Belcourt,

ND. In 1971, she married

Clifford Malling and they

made their home at the

farm In Douglas. They

had 8 wonderful years to-

gether before Cliff’s pass-

ing in 1979. In 1982,

LaVerne moved to Garris-

on, ND and went back to

teaching school for

several years at St. Nicho-

las Catholic School. It

took some convincing

from Father Backes and

Sister Helen, but eventu-

ally she gave in.

LaVerne was very in-

volved in numerous

church and school activi-

ties throughout her life.

She also was a member of

the Nifty Fifties, St. Ann’s

Altar Society, and Notre

Dame Alter Society. She

enjoyed dancing, cards,

board games, gardening,

playing piano, sewing,

crafts, and quilting with

her sisters and friends.

She really enjoyed her

students and their parents

throughout her 33 years of

teaching. She loved pro-

viding a fun environment

to entertain her family

and friends whenever she

possibly could.

LaVerne is survived by

her son, Gordon Roberge,

Bismarck, ND; daughter,

Dianne Garrison,

Bismarck, ND; grandchil-

dren, John (Wendy)

Schaffer, Great Falls, MT,

Stephanie Garrison,

Bismarck, ND, Troy (Ro-

byn) Garrison, Bismarck,

ND, Heidi Garrison,

Bismarck, ND; great

grandchildren, Betsy

Schaffer, Hannah

Schaffer, Camden Silha

and Cash Garrison; step

daughters-in-law, Lois

Malling, Bismarck, ND,

Joyce Malling, Bismarck,

ND; step grandchildren,

Jody Malling, Bismarck,

ND, Dawn Lindbloom,

Fargo, ND, Robin ( Randy)

Danko, Nashville, TN,

Dorene Malling,

Bismarck, ND, Greg (Ron-

and numerous nieces and

nephews.

She was preceded in

death by her parents, hus-

bands, Rene’ Roberge and

Clifford Malling, three

brothers, Alvin Lies,

Lawrence Lies, Donald

Lies, two sisters, Mildred

Schreiner, and Doreen

Lies, and two step-sons,

Robert Malling and Leslie

Malling.

In lieu of flowers the

family prefers memorials

to the Multiple Sclerosis
