Edward J. “John”
Suckut, 96, of Bowdon,
ND, died Monday, Oc-
tober 16, 2017, at Villa
Maria Nursing Home, Far-
go, ND, as a result of a
cerebral hemorrhage from
two falls several months
before his death.
Edward John Suckut
was born in rural
Bowdon, ND, on August
14, 1921, the son of As-
soph & Lydia (Baumbach)
Suckut. His birth name
was John Edward Suckut;
he later legally changed
his name to Edward John
Suckut.
He was raised on the
family farm in the
Bowdon & Heaton, ND,
area. He graduated from
elementary school & at-
tended Bowdon High
School. He worked as a
hired man for several
Bowdon area farmers. He
moved to Chicago, Illinois
where he worked in a can-
dy factory for three years.
After returning to ND, he
entered farming in the
Bowdon area. On May 8,
1943, he married Martha
Prodzinski in Fried, ND.
They farmed in the
Bowdon area the
remainder of their lives.
Edward started farming in
1942, and never really re-
tired. He served on the
board of the Fessenden
Farmers Union Credit Un-
ion and Berlin #2 school
Board in the Wells County
school district. He was a
member of the Registered
Herford Association, a
member of St. Elizabeth
Catholic Church, Sykes-
ton, ND, and the Knights
of Columbus.
He was very proud of
his success with his cattle
and grain crops. He
raised registered Here-
fords & Charolais/Herford
cross for over 55 yrs. He
was most proud of the
success he had raising the
Charolais-Herford cross
during the later portion of
his life.
He is survived by his
two daughters, Patricia
(Lyle) Johnson, of Belle-
ville, IL, and Janice
Thompson, of West Fargo,
ND; 6 grandchildren,
Mark (Sharon) Johnson,
Monroe, WA, Michael
Johnson, Tucson, AZ,
Matthew Johnson, Fair-
view, MT, Stacey (Mike)
Birrenkott, West Fargo,
ND, Jacqueline (Chris)
Grefsrud, West Fargo,
ND, Heather (Justin) Gra-
valin, Moorhead, MN. He
is also survived by 8 great
grandchildren, Michaela
& Samantha Johnson,
Monroe, WA, Kyle (Angel)
Parrish, San Diego, CA,
Connor and Carter Birren-kott, Jaden & Finly Gres-
frud, all of West Fargo,
ND, Jordan Gravalin,
Moorhead, MN; and a
great-great grandson Ben-
jamin Parrish, San Diego,
CA.
Also surviving are his
sister Alveretta Grant,
Henderson, NV; brothers
Willis Suckut & Leland
(Beverly) Suckut, all of
Carrington, ND; his
sister-in-law Donna
Suckut, Fargo, ND; and
many nieces and
nephews.
He was preceded in
death by Martha, his wife
of 61 years who died May
2004, his infant son
Michael Edwin Suckut
(twin to Janice), his
parents, brother Vernon,
sister Evelyn Olofson &
brothers-in-law George
Olofson & John Grant.
In lieu of flowers, dona-
tions may be made to
Hospice.
