Donald Byrd

March 22, 1930-Oct. 5, 2017

Donald Byrd, 87, Garris-on, formerly of Minot,

joined his wife, Norma,

for eternal life on Thurs-

day, October 5, 2017.

Donald Francis Byrd

was born March 22, 1930,

the son of Lawrence and

Lydia (Hanson) Bird, in

Kenmare, ND. He was

raised on the family farm

north of Kenmare and at-

tended rural schools in

the area. He graduated

from Kenmare High

School in 1948.

He enlisted in the Unit-

ed States Marine Corps

October 11, 1951. He

proudly served his coun-

try in the Korean War. He

was honorably discharged

October 10, 1953.

On April 14, 1959,

Donald married Norma C.

DeMers in Minot. They

made their home and

raised their family in

Surrey, Minot, Williston

and following their retire-ment, moved back to

Minot in 1989.

Donald was a very hard

working, Christian man.

Through the years, he

worked for the railroad,

Farmers Union Federated,

Cenex, and retired from

the Teamsters Union.

After retirement, he drove

bus for the Minot Com-

mission on Aging.

Norma passed away in

2010. Following his wife’s

death, he continued to re-

side in Minot until 2012,

when he moved to The

Meadows in Garrison.

He had a real love of

horses from early on in

his life. He especially en-

joyed chariot racing. He

and Norma loved to play

Bingo and truly enjoyed

spending time with his

children and grandchil-

dren.

He was a member of the

Moose Lodge and the

Minot American Legion

Post #26.

Surviving family in-

cludes: children, Donna

(Tom) Anderson, St.

James, MN, David Byrd,

Garrison, ND, and Dixie

Callahan, West Fargo, ND;

grandchildren, Caleb

(Megan) Anderson, Nick

Anderson and his fiance`,

Stephanie Meyers, sisters,

Marlyn (Don) Conlin,

Thompson Falls, MT, and

Marcella (LeRoy) Nettles,

Grass Valley, CA; and

numerous

brothers-in-law,

sisters-in-law, and many

nieces and nephews.

Don was preceded in

death by his mother,

Lydia; father, Lawrence;

step-mother, Ella; wife,

Norma; daughter, Dorothy

“Dee” Sexton; brothers,

Dean, Vernon, and Dale

Byrd.

Funeral: Friday, Oc-

tober 13, 2017, at 11:00

a.m. at Thompson-Larson

Funeral Home Chapel,

Minot, ND.

Interment: Rosehill

Memorial Park, Minot,

ND.

Visitation: One hour

prior to the service at

Thompson-Larson Fun-

eral Home, Minot.
