Loreen Gayle Conklin,

46, died on September 5,

2017 in Bismarck, after a

prolonged but tenacious

struggle to survive cancer.

Loreen was born to Leo-

nard (Sr.) and Freida (Wil-

son) Conklin, September

20, 1970 in Bismarck.

Loreen was a member

of the Dripping Dirt Clan

and a child of the Prairie

Chicken Clan of the Man-

dan, Hidatsa and Arikara

Nation. Her Hidatsa name

was “Sacred Clam Shell”.

Loreen attended school

in New Town and gra-

duated from Flandreau In-

dian School in May 1990.

Loreen then attended Box

Elder Job Corps in South

Dakota graduating with a

culinary arts certificate.

Loreen had been em-

ployed at the Four Bears

Casino until October 2016

when the effects of cancer

forced her to be hospital-


Loreen loved to travel

and socialize with friends.

She was the beloved little

sister, aunty and grand-

ma. Loreen was the per-

son that little children

loved and wanted to be

around, all the nephews,

nieces and grandchildren

naturally gravitated to her

and adored her. She, in

return, loved them all as

her own children. She

was the favorite grandma

of grandson Kaden Conk-


Family, friends,

nephews, nieces, and

grandchildren all have a

story to share of Loreen’s

loving humor and

mischievous spirit as a

result she was tagged with

many affectionate nick-

names for her adventures.

She will be dearly

missed. Loreen is sur-

vived by her sisters, El-

Marie Conklin, LouAnne

Conklin, Dalphine Conk-

lin and Ronita Conklin;

brothers, Leonard

“Charlie” Conklin, Jr.,

Terrance Conklin, Joseph

Conklin, Jack Conklin and

step-mother, Dona Conk-

lin. She was preceded in

death by: her parents and

a brother, Feryl Conklin.

Sept. 9 at 10:00 a.m. in

Hall, New Town
