Galen H. Jacobson, 94,
of Drake, passed away
September 21, 2017, at
the Minot Health and
Rehab Center in Minot,
ND.
Galen Jacobson, son of
Reuben B. and Pearl E.
(Hegge) Jacobson, was
born April 26, 1923, at
Drake, ND where he was
raised and educated, gra-
duating from Drake High
School in 1941.
Following graduation
from Drake High School,
Galen filled wholesale
warehouse orders for
three years at C. H. Burch.
From 1945 to 1962 he was
employed in Drake by
O.W. Fors Construction.
Galen then joined the con-
struction union and from
1962 to 1975 worked in
Minot for Orheim-Alm
Construction, followed by
seven years with Benton &
Voebrecht Constuction,
also of Minot. After work-
ing for three and a half
years building the
gasification/power plant
in Beulah, Galen retired
in 1986.
Galen was very proud
of Drake High School’s
6-man football accom-
plishments in which he
played halfback. The team
claimed a state champion-ship in 1938, posted a
second-place showing in
1939 and nabbed a share
of the title in 1940.
Galen served as alder-
man for the Drake City
Council from 1977 to
1982 and was the mayor
of Drake from April of
1982 to April of 1990. He
was the sexton of the
Drake City Cemetery for
many years.
On August 28, 1944, he
was married to Alice E.
Burgemeister in Drake,
where they raised five
children and had resided
since. Alice passed away
Oct. 8, 2011.
He was a member of the
Trinity Lutheran Church
of Drake.
Galen is survived by:
three sons, Duane (Lucia)
Jacobson, of Leeds, Jim
(Terri) Jacobson, of Great
Falls, Mont., and Keith
Jacobson, of West Fargo;
two daughters, Judi Isaak,
of Drake, and Mickey
(Drew) Fonder, of Rey-
nolds; 11 grandchildren;
18 great-grandchildren;
and numerous cousins,
nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in
death by: his wife Alice;
his parents; his brother,
Dewayne Jacobson; and
his great-grandson, Calvin
Galen Isaak.
Funeral: Wednesday,
September 27, at 2 p.m.,
at Trinity Lutheran
Church in Drake.
Burial: Drake City
Cemetery.
Visitation: Will be held
Tuesday, September 26,
from 3 to 6 p.m. at
Bethke-Nelson Funeral
Home in Drake.
