Elsie Mayer

Elsie Mayer, 95, long-

time New Town resident,

died Tuesday, September

5, 2017 in a Stanley nurs-

ing home.

Elsie Lillian Mayer was

born February 6, 1922 to

H.P. and Carrie Hansen

on the family farm near

Sanish, ND where she

was raised. She attended

a rural country school,

Sanish High School and

graduated from Stanley

High School in 1940.

She married Bernard

“Ben” Mayer on No-

vember 29, 1941 in Sid-

ney, MT. They made

their home on a farm in

rural Van Hook; after it

was purchased by the US

Government, and later

flooded by the Garrison

Dam, they purchased a

farm in rural New Town

where they continued to

live. Ben passed away on

October 18, 2000; they

were married for 58 years.

Elsie continued to live

on the farm until 2006

when she bought a condo

and moved into New

Town. She was a member

of Bethlehem Lutheran

Church of rural New

Town and its ELCW; she

served in the church

council and was president

of the ELCW. She served

on the New Town Nursing

Home Board for 9 years

acting as chairman for 6

of those years. Elsie was a

member of the Sanish

Riverview Club and

American Legion Auxili-

ary where she served as

president.

Elsie is survived by:

many nieces and

nephews, great-nieces and

great-nephews; and

great-great nieces and

nephews. She was pre-

ceded in death by: her

parents; husband; broth-

ers, Nels, Edward, John

and Roy; and sisters, An-

nie and Dakota; as well as

several nieces and

nephews.

September 9, 2017 at 11

a.m. in Bethel Lutheran

Church, New Town

Visitation: Friday from

9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in

Langhans Funeral Home,

Parshall

Interment: Bethlehem

Lutheran Church

Cemetery, rural New

Town.
