at Trinity Hospital in

Minot. His funeral service

will be Saturday, May 20,

2017 at 10 a.m. at Zion

Lutheran Church, Bert-

hold. Burial will be at

Sunset Memorial Gar-

dens, Minot. Visitation is

Friday, May 19 from noon

to 5 p.m. at Springan Fun-

eral Home, Stanley.

Ernest Bernard Howell

was born April 11, 1938 to

Adolf and Stella (Amund-

son) Howell in Stanley,

ND. He was raised on the

family farm near Tagus,

ND and graduated from

Tagus High School in

1956. He entered the

Army shortly after gra-

duating and was enlisted

for 4 years, serving one of

those years overseas in

Germany.

On August 12, 1962, Er-

nest married Joyce Niel-

sen in Stanley. They had

4 children and raised

them in various places

until moving to the family

farm in Tagus.

Ernest worked several

jobs in auto body, burying

cable and farming until

starting work in construc-tion. He worked for many

different companies

throughout the years and

many highway projects

including the construc-

tion of the new Highway 2

in North Dakota. Ernest

also worked in South

Dakota, Montana and

Minnesota. Minnesota

was his favorite place to

work and he finished his

career working for Con-

struction Hardrives in

Minnesota, living most of

the season in his camper.

He continued to help

companies looking for a

good finish blade operator

until his retirement. Dur-

ing the winter months, Er-

nest worked many years

at Minot Air Force Base

on snow removal.

He was a member of

Zion Luthearn Church,

Berthold and Operating

Engineers Local #49. Er-

nest enjoyed watching

NASCAR races and the

PBR on television. He also

enjoyed just being on the

farm.

Ernest is survived by:

his wife of 54 years, Joyce;

children: Terry (Paula)

Howell, Lewiston, NE,

Tim Howell, Rochester,

MN, Todd Howell, Bert-

hold, ND and Tammy

(Dave) Carico, Berthold,

ND; grandchildren: Cody

(Hope) Howell, Casey

(Kim) Howell, Cydney

Howell, Cari Howell, Stet-

son Carico, Kylee Carico,

Nathan Carico and Chris-

tian Carico; and sister,

Clarice Abrahamson,

Minot, ND.

He was preceded in

death by: his parents and

brother-in-law, Jim Abra-

hamson.
