Layon E. Gartner, 77,

Minot, passed away on

Wednesday, February 15,

2017 at his home.

Layon Eugene Gartner

was born on September

21, 1939, the son of Albert

and Alvina (Huber)

Gartner in Sawyer, ND.

He was raised and educat-

ed in the Sawyer area.

On October 30, 1956,

Layon enlisted into the

United States Army. He

proudly served his coun-

try, where he received the

Expert (TankMM), Army

Occupational Medal (Ber-

lin), Marskman and Good

conduct medals. He was

honorably discharged in

October 14, 1959.

On September 28, 1963,

Layon was united in mar-

riage to Elaine Rudnick at

St. Leo the Great Roman

Catholic Church in Minot.

They made their home in

Minot, where Layon

worked for the City of

Minot as a firefighter from

1966 until his retirement

in 2000.

Layon enjoyed spend-

ing time outdoor fishing

and camping, reading and

watching westerns, going

to coffee with his friends

and spending time with

his family. He was a lov-

ing husband, father, and

grandfather and will be

missed by all that knew

him.

Layon is survived by:

His wife of 53 years,

Elaine, Minot; son Brian

(Collette) Gartner, Brea,

CA; daughter Karen

Gartner, Palm Desert, CA;

one granddaughter Sydni

Gartner; sister-in-law

Valerie Gartner; an aunt

Freda Gall; niece Susan,

and 2 nephews Chris and

Gene;

He was preceded in

death by: his parents, a

brother Laverne Gartner

and a sister Marlys Peter-

son.

Visitation: There will

be no reviewal, however,

friends may sign a guest

register on Monday,

February 20, 2017 from 4

until 7 pm at

Thompson-Larson Fun-

eral Home Minot.
