Gerald Dean Stordal
1934-2017
Dr. Gerald (Jerry) Stor-
dal was born in Minot,
North Dakota to Vera and
Oscar Stordal. He gra-
duated from Minot Model
High School where he let-
tered in football and was
also crowned homecom-
ing king. Gerald then stu-
died at Minot State Col-
lege for one year before at-
tending the University of
Minnesota where he gra-
duated with Bachelor of
Science and Doctor of
Dental Surgery degrees.
While in dental school,
Gerald married Jacquelyn
Fix.
Gerald was enrolled in
the United States Army
Senior program during
dental school. According-ly, after completing dental
school, he and his wife
Jacquelyn moved to Taco-
ma, Washington where
Gerald participated in the
US Army Rotating Intern-ship Program at Madigan
General Hospital. From
there he joined the US
Army Special Forces and
moved with his wife to
Bad Tolz, Germany where
Gerald became the com-
manding officer of the
10th Special Forces Group
(Airborne) Dental Clinic.
Gerald finished his ser-
vice in the military as a
Dental Officer with the
7th Special Forces Group
(Airborne) in Fort Bragg,
North Carolina.
Following his service in
the military, Gerald con-
tinued his dental educa-
tion at Northwestern
University in Chicago
where he completed a
Master of Science Degree
in orthodontics. He and
his wife then moved to
Minot, North Dakota
where he started, and
continued to operate, an
orthodontic practice from
1965 to 1997.
Dr. Stordal was very ac-
tive in the dental com-
munity in North Dakota.
He was a member of the
American Dental Associa-tion, the American Asso-
ciation of Orthodontists,
and the American Society
of Dentistry for Children.
He also served as
President of the North
Dakota Chapter of Dentis-try for Children, the
Minot Dental Society, The
Northwest District Dental
Society, the North Dakota
Society of Orthodontists,
and served as first Vice
President of the North
Dakota Dental Associa-
tion. In recognition of his
great contribution to the
field of dentistry, Gerald
was elected to the Interna-tional College of Dentis-
try.
Gerald had an active in-
terest in serving the Minot
community. He did this in
numerous ways that in-
cluded being active in the
Minot Rotary Club where
he was a past President
and a Paul Harris Fellow.
He was also on the dental
staff of St. Joseph’s Hospi-
tal, was a member of the
Board of Directors for the
Minot Country Club, sup-
ported the Minot Sym-
phony Association, and
supported the Taube
Museum of Art.
Gerald had numerous
interests and hobbies. He
was an avid outdoors
enthusiast. He enjoyed
hunting, fishing, skiing,
scuba diving, hiking, and
camping. He was also an
avid traveler. He and his
wife toured numerous
countries across the globe.
Gerald was a voracious
reader. He particularly
enjoyed learning about
history as well as a
plethora of other topics.
Gerald is survived by
his children: Lori Herauf
of Tulsa, Oklahoma and
Leif Stordal of Newcastle,
Washington; and his
grand-daughter: Alyssa
Herauf of New Orleans,
Louisiana. Gerald was
preceded in death by his
parents and his wife Jac-
quelyn.
A private family ser-
vice will be held in Tulsa,
OK. It is preferred that
