Arthur Schuer

Arthur Schuer, 95, Lis-

bon, ND, formerly of

Douglas, ND, passed away

Thursday, February 23,

2017, at the North Dakota

Veterans Home in Lisbon,

ND.

Arthur Alex Schuer was

born June 15, 1921, the

son of Martin and Bertha

(Weidger) Schuer, in

Ryder, ND. He was raised

on the Schuer family farm

and educated at Blue Hill

Country School in rural

Ryder, ND. As a young

adult, he assisted his

parents with the operation

of the family farm.

Arthur was drafted in

the United States Army

on November 21, 1942.

He served as a Hellcat

with the 12th Armored

Division as a member of

the 493rd Armored Field

Artillery Battalion during

WWII. He was honorably

discharged February 2,

1946.

Arthur married Betty L.

Todd February 17, 1952,

in Douglas, ND. They

farmed in the Ryder area

until 1956, when they

bought a farm located in

Spring Lake Township of

Ward County, near Doug-

las, ND. They farmed

small grains and raised

their two sons on the

farm. Arthur continued to

farm until 2003, when his

son, Jim, took over the

operation of the family

farm.

Betty passed away De-

cember 17, 2008. Follow-

ing his wife’s death,

Arthur continued to re-

side on the farm until

2011, when he became a

resident of the North

Dakota Veterans Home in

Lisbon, ND.

He enjoyed dancing,

fishing, hunting, and tel-

ling stories of the olden

days. He loved candy and

sweets and visiting with

people.

He was a member of

Trinity Lutheran Church

in Douglas and a former

member of the Ryder

Farmers Union.

and Greg (Jill) Schuer,

Moorhead, MN;

grandchildren, Jesse

(Michelle) Schuer, Heidi

Schuer and her fiance,

Bret Joarnt; Lance (Heath-

er) Schuer; Heather

Schuer and Kris (Marc)

Rigney;

great-grandchildren, Had-

ley Marie Schuer, Hudson

Ryan Schuer, and Ben

Rigney; and a few nieces

and nephews.

He was preceded in

death by his parents;

wife, Betty; grandson,

Ryan Schuer; brother,

Carl Schuer; and sisters,

Elsie Van De Bruggen,

Viola Freiberger, and Ber-

tha Brandt.

Funeral: Wednesday,

March 1, 2017, at 10:30

a.m. at Thompson-Larson

Funeral Home Chapel,

Minot.

Interment: Rosehill

Memorial Park, Minot,

ND.

Visitation: Tuesday

from 4 to 7 p.m. at

Thompson-Larson Fun-

eral Home, Minot.

Memorials: are pre-

ferred to North Dakota

Veterans Home in Lisbon,
