Richard A. ‘Rick’ Visina

Rick Visina, 52, Minot, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, at his residence.

Rick was born March 1, 1961, in Minot, the son of Fred and Fran (Mullen) Visina. He was raised in Minot and graduated from Bishop Ryan High School in Minot in 1979. He furthered his education at Minot State University and graduated with a degree in accounting in 1984.

Rick married the love of his life, Peggy Reinarts, on Aug. 2, 1982. They made their home in Minot, where together they raised their four children. Rick was employed for the past 28 years with Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota. He had received a number of awards for his outstanding service to the company and his customers.

Rick was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot, the Minot Sertoma Club, Minot Knights of Columbus and the Minot Country Club. He was an active member in the Minot community, serving on numerous boards. One of his more recent community contributions was serving as a member of Neighborhood Development Enterprise Inc., whose mission was to provide affordable housing to those in need.

Rick was a devoted family man. His wife and children always came first. His favorite pastime was golfing at the Minot Country Club. He also loved hunting and was a self-proclaimed handyman. He enjoyed spending his summers at his “little slice of Heaven” at Strawberry Lake with family and friends.

Rick’s loving family includes: wife of 31 years, Peggy, Minot; parents, Fred and Fran Visina, Mesa, Ariz.; children, Tyler (Katie) Visina, of Woodbury, Minn., Danielle (Jeffrey) Baumgartner, of Maple Grove, Minn., MacKenzie (Michael) Hildahl, of Cottage Grove, Minn., and Ian Visina, of Grand Forks; grandchildren, Maxwell and Theodore Visina and Walter Baumgartner; brothers, Mark (Karen) Visina, of Chandler, Ariz., Ryan (Pamela) Visina, of Mesa, Ariz.; sisters, Jeanne (Randy) Jaeger, of Sartell, Minn., Patricia (Jim) Hausauer, of West Fargo, and Julia (Ron) Kudrna, of Pensacola, Fla.; father-in-law, Bob Reinarts, Minot; brothers in-law, Bruce (Darlene) Reinarts, of Bismarck, David (Debbie) Reinarts, of Garrison; sister-in-law, Paula Potter, of Minot; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Rick was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Dorothy Reinarts.

Mass of Christian Burial: Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, at 11 a.m., in Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot.

Vigil prayer service: Today, Jan. 30, at 7 p.m., in Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church.

Visitation: Today, from noon to 3 p.m., in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot, and then continuing today from 4:30 to 7 p.m., at the church.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers and plants, the family prefers memorials be designated to The First Tee Minot or Minot Catholic Schools.
