Ward County 4-H members compete at district archery match

Eighteen Ward County 4-H members traveled to Bismarck for the Southwest District Archery Match.

The Southwest District Archery Match was held at the Nishu Bowmen Archery Complex on Jan. 12. Receiving second place in the Masters division was Ethan Myers, Minot, with a score of 296. Myers was the only one from Ward County competing in the Masters division.

Competing in the Senior Freestyle division were Tate Novodvorsky, Douglas, and Sarah Potts, Mason Kraft and Aaron Bahnsen, all Minot. Competing in Senior Barebow division were Myers and Novodvorsky.

In the Junior Barebow division, Ward County was represented by Layne Korgel and Karter Myers, both Minot, Miranda Novodvorsky, Douglas, and Elizabeth Michel, Berthold. In Junior Freestyle division, K. Myers received fifth place. Others competing included Jacob Saunders, Minot, M. Novodvorsky, and L. Korgel, Teagan Strilcov and Makayla Kraft, all Minot.

In the Beginner Freestyle division, Ward County youth included Cole Whitcher, Minot, Kiley Whillock, Kenmare, and Elizabeth Kraft, Minot. In the Beginner Freestyle division Baylee Bahnsen, Breanna Mindt and Ryia Beeter, all Minot, represented Ward County.

Categories are split up by age and type of bow the individual uses. Categories include Beginner, who are ages 8 to 10; Junior, ages 11 to 13; and Senior, ages 14 to 18. There are two types of bows, Barebow and Freestyle. Barebow have no sights or releases. If a bow has either a sight or release they are put into the Freestyle category. There is one class of Masters for those who are at least 14 years old and have already competed at the national contest.

Ward County 4-H is hosting the Northwest District Archery Match on Feb. 2 at the North Dakota State Fairgrounds in 4-H Hall. .
