Give in the spirit of the holiday season

Menards hosts annual Toy Drive through the month

Shyanne Belzer/MDN The Toy Drive drop box at Menards has been placed by the exit where guests can see it and donate as they leave the store. Many registers have toy options for guests to purchase and donate.

As many in the Minot community prepare to sit down and consider what they are thankful for later this week and others begin to shop for the Christmas season next month, Menards is setting out to try and help make the holiday season a little nicer for children in the area.

To bring some extra spirit to the area, Menards is holding their annual Toy Drive again this year. The drive started at the beginning of November and will be running until the end of the month. A drop station for the new, unwrapped toys has been set up near the exit door.

“The drive has been doing good so far,” said Minot Menards General Manager Jared Cowell. “We’ve already had the drop box picked up twice.”

The box that holds the donations is a large one, estimated to be roughly 4 feet high on a pallet. According to other employees at Menards, last year there were around five boxes of donations throughout the month. They hope to do just as good, if not better, this year.

The Menards Toy Drive welcomes any types of toys. Donations will be going to the local organization known as KHRT Horn of Plenty to be distributed to those less fortunate in the community for the holiday season.

“We do it for the kids,” explained Cowell. “It’s all going to a good cause and this time of the year, we are trying to make it great for everyone.”

Registers at Menards will be showcasing different toys that are for sale, allowing customers to purchase them and drop into the box at the end of their shopping.

Menards is open 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. They will be closed on Thursday for Thanksgiving but will open at 6:30 a.m. the next day.

The final day to donate toys for local kids will be Nov. 30.
