‘Stop the Bleed’ Class Scheduled Oct. 15

Trinity Health will offer a “Stop the Bleed” training session October 15 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Health Center Riverside, 1900 8th Avenue SE (west of the Clarion Hotel). Stop the Bleed is a national initiative launched in 2015 following a series of mass casualty events, according to a press release.

Members of the public are invited to register for the class, which seeks to instruct community members on the basics of stopping uncontrolled bleeding due to a car crash, farm accident, or everyday emergency.

“Uncontrolled bleeding is the leading cause of preventable death due to trauma,” said Rhonda Gunderson, RN, BSN, Trinity Health’s Trauma Program Manager, in the press release. “Stop the Bleed is designed to empower a bystander without medical knowledge to take action if faced with a situation in which someone is injured and bleeding. It’s a skill everyone can easily be taught when they take the course. Having the training to control bleeding until help arrives could save a life.”

To register or for more information, call Trinity Health Trauma Services at 857-5700. A $20 fee may be paid at the time of the class. Each student will receive a Bleeding Control Kit upon completion of the class.
