Robbery suspect at large

Five recent robberies in city

Minot Police say they are searching for a suspect in a brazen daylight robbery that occurred Monday morning.

The robbery was reported to police at 9:13 a.m. Monday in the area of the Wells Fargo Bank at 100 South Broadway. Police say a customer outside of the bank was approached by a black male and who told the customer to give him the money. No weapons were visible. The amount of money taken was not disclosed.

A witness later alerted police to the location of a vehicle suspected to have been used by the suspect and told police that a man fled from the vehicle in the area of the 900 block of Fourth Street SW.

Police say they have identified the robber as 25-year-old Quantdre O. Mersier. Mersier is described as a black male with black hair and brown eyes, 5’11” tall and weighing 165 pounds. They are asking that anyone knowing the whereabouts of Mersier to contact the Minot Police Department. Mersier has not been named as a suspect in any of the other robberies.

The incident triggered a “soft” lockdown of three schools in the city – Magic City Campus, Jim Hill Middle School and Edison Elementary. The precautionary lockdown ended about 11:30 a.m. Monday.

The abandoned suspect vehicle was located in the 800 block of Third Street SW and was impounded by police. Police said late Monday that they were still trying to identify the driver of the vehicle.

The robbery is the fifth in the city in recent weeks in which the perpetrators remain at large. Pizza delivery men were robbed, at least one of them at gunpoint, the week of Sept. 10 and again on Sept. 24.

There was also the daylight armed invasion and robbery of a residence on North Hill Aug. 21 and the daylight armed robbery Sept. 13 of a man doing carpentry work at a home in northwest Minot. Police have made no arrests in any of those incidents.
