Fantastic Floral Fridays
Businesses donate so Fundamentals of Art students can make beautiful art
Students in Carissa Fournier’s Fundamentals of Art class at Minot High School – Central Campus have been brightening the school this year.
Each Friday is “Fantastic Floral Friday” when the students deliver works of art to a staff member.
By the end of the year, the students will have made deliveries to every teacher or staff member in the school, making all of them feel special and appreciated.
“Everything’s donated to make this art work,” said Fournier, the art instructor and yearbook adviser.
She and the students appreciate the contributions of businesses like Seasons and Cookies for You that have helped make the project possible.
This past week the students in the class have been working on making flowers from recycled Nespresso coffee pods. The pretty coffee pod flowers decorate the walls in the commons area at the school.
All of the items that have been used to make the art have been donated by businesses like Val’s Cyclery and Bernina Sewing Shop. When Fournier called for containers to put the flowers in, donations of glass vases by fellow teachers suddenly appeared.
The students are learning the importance of giving back and appreciation and all of the students are learning about the importance of including everyone in their school community.
Meanwhile, teachers and staff members get to anticipate the students’ next creations every week.
