Two incumbents re-elected to Three Affiliated Tribes council

Two incumbents were re-elected to the Three Affiliated Tribes business council after attaining majority votes in the Sept. 18 primary election.

Official results showed Parshall representative Mervin Packineau received 77.3 percent of the votes to defeat Delvin Rabbithead Sr., 269 to 79. Twin Buttes representative Cory Spotted Bear received 217 votes, or 83.78 percent, to 27 votes for Phyllis Lincoln-Steen and 15 for Leon Little Owl.

Current Tribal Chairman Mark Fox and former chairman Tex Hall advanced to the Nov. 6 general election, and V. Judy Brugh and Wendi Wells advanced in the race for Four Bears representative.

Fox was top vote-getter in the chairman race with 959 votes or 42 percent. Hall had 462 votes for 20 percent. Other candidates and their vote tallies were Scott Satermo, 307; Marcus Wells, 256; Jasper Young Bear, 185; and Kermit Heart, 112.

In the Four Bears race, Brugh, a former representative, received 141 votes for 38.32 percent. Wells received 59 votes or 16 percent. Others receiving votes were Marcus Levings, 52; Kevin Finley, 46; incumbent Frank Grady, 37; Hazel Heart, 12; Lawrence Baker, 11; and Russell Deane, 10.
