Norwegian troupe to perform at ND Heritage Center & State Museum

BISMARCK – A troupe of Norwegian performers including Joan Paddock, originally from Minot, will honor the Arctic Scandinavian northern lights through songs, fun facts, and stories of the Norse, Kven and Sami people during a performance of “Under the Northern Lights” Monday at 7 p.m. in the North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum, Bismarck.

Performing will be Paddock, music professor, award-winning cultural presenter and conductor who is of Norwegian heritage and a Norwegian birch bark lur/flute player and trumpeter. Trine Strand is an Arctic Norwegian from Malangen, Norway. She is a well-known singer and performer from a minority folk group of Norway, the Kven people and the coastal Sami. Stina Fargertun, from Troms, Norway, is a cultural presenter and traditional storyteller, who shares stories and songs from the same cultures as Strand. Fagertun was named the Best Storyteller in Norway.

The performing troupe is engaged in a cultural exchange with David “Doc” Brien from St. Ann’s Mission in Belcourt, and are attending Norsk Hostfest in Minot this week.
