New buildings arriving for new habitats

Building assembly is taking place at Roosevelt Park Zoo’s new habitat for Amur Tigers. This is the latest milestone in the New Habitat for a New Century RPZ Centennial Capital Campaign.

Assembly of the prefabricated concrete walls began Monday. A crane is in place and three walls are upright. Construction of the building for African Lions will start when the first building is complete.

The new habitats for lions and tigers are expected to be complete in the summer of 2019. The big cats will winter one more year in the current cat complex before moving into the new spaces.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held in June 2018 following capital campaign fundraising efforts that began in July 2017. Their financial goal is to raise $6 million. The capital campaign has currently raised $4,482,501 and will continue to raise funds. Learn more about the projects and to help them reach their goal, visit www.rpzoo.com.
