Ronald Wootan, Rolette, charged with murder, attempted murder
ROLETTE – Ronald Wayne Wootan, 49, Rolette, is facing multiple felonies, including Class AA felony murder and Class A felony attempted murder following an eight hour standoff in Rolette on Tuesday.
Wootan shot and killed James Pochant on Tuesday, according to a criminal complaint filed with the court.
Wootan also allegedly barricaded himself inside his home at 605 3rd Avenue in Rolette and fired shots at an occupied Minot Police Department SWAT team vehicle during an eight hour standoff in Rolette on Tuesday, which is the reason for the attempted murder charge. He had also made threats to kill people while brandishing the firearm, endangered the public by firing shots in a residential area, and resisted arrest.
Wootan is additionally charged in district court in Rolette County with Class C felony terrorizing, Class C felony reckless endangerment, and Class C felony preventing arrest or discharge of other duties.
Wootan made an initial appearance on all of the charges on Wednesday before Judge Anthony Benson, who set bond at $1 million, according to an Associated Press report.
Wootan’s neighbors in Rolette had to be evacuated from the area during the standoff, according to media reports.
