Sen. Heidi Heitkamp, a member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, meets at the Minot Municipal Auditorium Friday afternoon with law enforcement officials about northern border security. The northern border is the world’s largest continuous land border at 5,500 miles. Afterward, she met with the Minot Daily News editorial board. That morning she discussed the Farm Bill and trade impacts with area farmers and ranchers in Rugby and toured Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby. Heitkamp said 80 percent of the discussion with farmers and ranchers in Rugby was on tariffs and how they are being impacted. Heitkamp is a member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture and a leader of the Rural Health Caucus.
