David Dworshak, Bowbells, sentenced to nine years for GSI
David Michael Dworshak, 63, Bowbells, will serve nine years in prison for sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl in June 2016.
Dworshak earlier pleaded guilty to Class AA felony gross sexual imposition. He was sentenced in Minot on Friday.
North Central District Court Judge Todd Cresap sentenced him on Friday to 20 years in prison, with a requirement that he serve nine years, and placed Dworshak on supervised probation for 10 years. Dworshak must also register as a sex offender and have no contact with the victim. Restitution in the case will be reserved for 90 days. Dworshak must also pay court costs.
Cresap sentenced Dworshak to nine years instead of the 10 years in prison that the prosecution asked for because Dworshak pleaded guilty to spare the girl from having to testify at a trial.
The girl and her mother both testified at the sentencing hearing on Friday that Dworshak’s actions have caused the girl and her family tremendous emotional harm.
Dworshak apologized in court, said he does not know why he abused the girl, and told her it is all his fault and he hopes she recovers from what he did to her.
The girl told a friend last summer about the abuse and the friend insisted that she tell her mother. The girl’s mother reported the crime and Social Services filed a report with law enforcement.
Dworshak fondled the girl under clothing.
